Academy/Fountain and Academy/Pikes Peak Safety Improvements : The intent is to combine these two safety projects into a single design and construction contract. Design and construction of intersection improvements will be made to reduce traffic congestion and accidents at these intersections.
- Fountain Blvd. Intersection. The project includes the purchase of right-of-way and widening Academy Blvd. north and south of Fountain Blvd. to accommodate improvements associated with left-turn lanes for both northbound and southbound traffic, minor widening of Fountain Blvd. west of Academy to provide an additional eastbound right-turn lane, signal retiming and pedestrian ramp/sidewalk improvements.
- Pikes Peak Ave. Intersection. The project includes the purchase of right-of-way and widening Pikes Peak Ave. west of Academy Blvd. to accommodate installation of left-turn operation for the eastbound traffic, signal retiming, improving corner radii, and pedestrian ramp improvements.
Total estimated project cost: $1,405,600 (2005 = $395,000; 2006 = $1,010,600). Estimated project schedule: Design/ROW/Bid – August 2005 to April 2006; Construction – June -December 2006
